PUBLIC INVITED TO COMMENT ON
TAPPAN ZEE BRIDGE/I-287 ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
Meetings to be held January 14-16 from 4 to 9 p.m.

The New York State Thruway Authority and the MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that three public scoping meetings will be held in mid-January as part of a continuing effort to solicit broad public input on the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 environmental review and alternatives analysis.

Scoping is an open process for determining the scope of issues to be addressed and the significant issues related to the proposed action that will be analyzed in depth in the EIS. During scoping, cooperating and interested agencies at all levels of government and the public will comment on the scope of the study and the issues to be examined in the EIS.

The public meetings will take place in Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties from 4 to 9 p.m. at the following locations:

January 14, 2003
Westchester County
Sleepy Hollow High School
210 North Broadway
Sleepy Hollow, NY

January 15, 2003
Rockland County
Palisades Mall Community Rooms
1000 Palisades Center
West Nyack, NY

January 16, 2003
Orange County
Orange County Community College
115 South Street
Middletown, NY

Each meeting will be run in an informal open house setting. However, two formal presentations will take place at 4:30 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. After the presentations are complete, participants will have a full opportunity to make comments and suggestions.

An informational packet that explains the study’s purpose and need, goals and objectives, and a preliminary list of alternatives and environmental areas that will be addressed during the course of the study, is available on the study web site - www.tzbsite.com.

Additionally, a Notice of Intent for the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Environmental Review has been published in the Federal Register. This Notice formally begins the study process.

The study will identify and evaluate a number of multi-modal highway and transit proposals to address the transportation needs of the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Corridor. The study will also examine the structural needs of the Tappan Zee Bridge, as well as other existing infrastructure in the corridor.

In addition to the public scoping meetings, the public will be afforded many other opportunities to comment and make suggestions during the course of the study.

Additional information about the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Environmental Review, as well as the history of the Bridge, can be found on the study’s web site - www.tzbsite.com.
